Balcones Mission Statement

Balcones Youth Sports' primary goal is to promote player development of Little League Baseball & Softball so that children can pursue a healthy and active lifestyle and learn the game of baseball and softball. Our goal is to be all inclusive, no matter the socio-economic mix of our families and to make baseball and softball available to any child who wants to play.

Balcones History

Balcones Youth Sports has been chartered with Little League since 1965 near the time that President Lyndon Johnson passed Federal Legislation in support of Little League Baseball as a Federally Chartered Lifetime 501© organization. Little League is still the only “Federally Chartered Non-Profit Organization” recognized as a lifetime non-profit organization by Congress. The timing was not coincidental as this was a push to get undeveloped areas involved in the growth of their Community. Balcones Little League, in active cooperation with the City of Austin, made an agreement with the City of Austin that “IF WE WOULD BUILD IT, THEY WOULD COME”.    Balcones started as a spin-off from Northwest Little League on AISD property that was not ready for development and was built by all volunteer labor and funds to serve the Austin area residents the City was unable to reach in the far NW area. Balcones is one of three privately owned organizations/complexes that the land was purchased or donated, the facility was built and the organization strichered to serve area youths that exist in the City of Austin, as well as the Metro areas.  The area had outgrown the Chartered Territory allowed to NWLL on AISD owned land and Balcones agreed to organize and obtain our own Charter from Little League and to service our expanding local community by providing one of the first fully Private Little League Charters in the Travis County area.  In 1965, we were at the extreme N/NW end of the undeveloped end of Travis County, much less the City of Austin. In 1976 the current site of Balcones Youth Sports was donated by the Lyda Family and the current facility was built.  Balcones Youth Sports, in it’s 50 + years as a "Private Organization" has continued to serve over 60,000 area youths and families since they cooperated with the City of Austin.  The socio-economic impact as an organization, in teaching children and parents the spirit of Little League and Volunteerism is an impact that cannot be overlooked.  Balcones Youth Sports continues to give back to the community by its Volunteer Umpires that encompass the entire area of the City of Austin as well as the numerous families and children they impact within the City and District 11 Little League.
